CanadianAudiologist.ca is pleased to provide a service for our readers where interested audiology clients can be referred for an on-line experience to be a volunteer subject in an experiment/survey being run by researchers at Canadian universities.

Following is a brief overview of the research that has been approved by their university’s ethics approval board. Each of these research overviews can be printed out and advertised in your office for interested patients.

Please consult our “Terms of Use" section, which can be found at the bottom of this page, particularly the section on "External Links and Advertisements." CanadianAudiologist.ca provides those external links as a convenience and takes no responsibility for other websites' use and content.

Research Opportunity: Share Your Perspective

Researchers at the Baycrest Academy for Research and Education and the University of Toronto are seeking participants for a remote interview-based study.

Why are we doing this study?

In recent years, messaging around the link between hearing loss and cognitive health has become more prevalent. As a result, some audiologists have implemented cognitive screening as part of their hearing care practice. With this study, we hope to gain a better understanding of the perspectives of audiologists on the use of these screenings in the hearing clinic.

Who is eligible to participate?

Individuals who are currently registered, practising audiologists in Canada or the US are eligible to participate in this study. Participants must be native English or proficient English speakers, due to the conversational nature of the study.

What does the study involve?

The study session consists of two main parts: a conversational interview and a short socio-demographic questionnaire.

During the interview, you will be asked to discuss your understanding of the role of cognitive health in audiology. We will also discuss your use or non-use of cognitive screening in the hearing clinic, including the motivations behind implementing or not implementing these practices. The interview will be conversational between you and the researcher and will be audio recorded for transcription and later analysis. Your participation is confidential and will not be shared with anyone, including your patients and colleagues.

You will also be asked to complete a short questionnaire that will ask you to provide basic demographic information, language background, and your perceived general health.

It is anticipated that the entire study session will take about 60-120 minutes, depending on the duration of the interview. You will be compensated for your time.

How do I participate?

If you are interested in participating, or if you have any questions about our study, please email Sarah at sbobbitt@research.baycrest.org
