Introducing the New Canadian Academy of
Audiology President: Andreas Seelisch

Hearing Solutions, LONDON, ON

Andreas graduated Western University with a Bachelor of Health Sciences (Hons) in 2006 and a Master’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2008. He completed his thesis work at the National Centre for Audiology on the sound quality impact of frequency compression technology and has published on this topic as well as others. He gives regular lectures in the community, at conferences and scientific meetings, in the media and at various post-secondary academic institutions including University of Toronto, Western University and Conestoga College. In addition to over a decade of clinical practice as an Audiologist, he is currently engaged as the Director of Audiology at Hearing Solutions, the largest independently owned hearing healthcare clinics in Ontario.

Abstract

Entrepreneurship, general economics, business planning, sales techniques, competitive strategies, human resources, marketing, and other essential basics for the development and maintenance of a business operation.

While limited in its timeframe, the webinar will review the essential business considerations audiology clinic management.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion, participants will be able to

  1. Describe the characteristics of an entrepreneur within the field of Audiology.
  2. Describe the pre and formal process of preparing a written business plan.
  3. Describe the unexpected business skills required for practice owners to ensure success.

CAA Conference 2024

CAA Conference 2024 was a great success. We broke our attendance record. Thank you to all our attendees, speakers, sponsors and exhibitors for your participation. The speakers were excellent with presentations on leading issues, new research and clinical applications. Industry activities were a success.

2024 Student Award, Grant and Bursary Winners

Clinical Research Grant Award

This year the clinical research grant is awarded to Christine Meston, Chris Allan and Danielle Glista from Western University.

The CAA Research Grant for Clinical Investigators provides support, both financial and practical, to individuals seeking to investigate a unique research question on hearing and/or balance. The successful applicant will receive the support to help coordinate access to the proper resources to see the project to completion.

Student Award Winners

CAA Student Bursary Winner

The Canadian Academy of Audiology is pleased to introduce the recipients of the 2024 Student Awards nominated by their University faculty. The award is presented to Audiology graduated students in Canada who have distinguished themselves in academic or clinical excellence, outstanding research, or community service and promoting the profession of audiology.

CAA Student Poster Outstanding Research Awards

The Canadian Academy of Audiology awarded 2 Student Poster Outstanding Research Awards. The prizes were presented to audiology students working within hearing or balance who have presented original research (by poster and/or podium) for evaluation at the annual CAA Conference 2024.

The first place prize was awarded to Danielle Lafleur and second place was awarded to Danielle DiFabio

CAA Student Bursary Winner

The Canadian Academy of Audiology student bursary partially supports students to attend the annual conference to learn and network. The 2024 Student Bursary was awarded to Brianna Hepditch


Accessibility Standards Canada’s Chief Executive Officer Selection Process

The Government of Canada is seeking applications from diverse and talented individuals from across the country interested in a full-time Governor in Council (GIC) position as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Accessibility Standards Canada. 
 
The Government of Canada is committed to an open, transparent and merit-based selection process in consideration of gender parity, linguistic, regional and employment equity representation, which includes persons with disabilities, Indigenous Peoples, members of visible minorities and women. 
 
Under the Accessible Canada Act, the CEO is responsible for the Standards Organization’s day-to-day operations. This includes providing executive leadership and management direction for the development of standards designed to identify, remove, and prevent barriers to accessibility.
