Message from the Editor-in-Chief
Thank you to everyone who make the Canadian Academy of Audiology what it is
Our e-publication, CanadianAudiologist.ca is now one decade old.
With its previous incarnation, the Canadian Hearing Report, the Canadian Academy of Audiology has provided its members with cutting-edge articles and columns touching on all aspects of audiology. Given this special decade-anniversary, it is fitting to underscore the work and dedication of the many volunteers and administration members who make the Canadian Academy of Audiology productive.
Each of the many Directors on the Board has mentored and served on certain committees and portfolios that have provided Canadian Academy of Audiology members with access to policy and decision-makers and increased the visibility of audiology in Canada. I thank them all, for without them, we would not be where we are today. The Leaders and Audiologists who make our committees productive are profoundly thanked.
Our most recent annual conference in Ottawa had, by far, the greatest number of participants. Our speakers presented world-class talks (and were all excellent and fun speakers to boot). The social and career-building interactions at the conference among our members were all relaxed, fun, and fruitful. And, just as importantly, the Canadian Academy of Audiology has served the needs of its sponsors and exhibitors to interact with audiologists. Everyone involved benefited greatly.
This is not a coincidence
The activities of the Canadian Academy of Audiology – its conferences; its advocacy; its publications; and its resources- are the result of the commitment by our Boards of Directors, volunteers and excellent leadership of our executive director Jean Holden, MSc, MBA. I have never seen anyone work so hard behind the scenes, and with the administrative manager support provided by Dorcas Awoniyi and 6 other specialists, these people not only make the Canadian Academy of Audiology an excellent organization but have also been instrumental in its growth. Our most recent conference the largest in our history, and the membership of the Canadian Academy of Audiology is at an all-time high.
CanadianAudiologist.ca also has many people working behind the scenes. In addition to its regular columnists, regular article contributors, and editorial board members- many of whom have been with us since its inception – Scott Bryant is our “behind the scenes” Managing Editor, and Matthew Spence, is our Production Coordinator. And with Gord Rowland as our IT/Web analyst, both the Canadian Academy of Audiology and its e-publication, CanadianAudiologist.ca have flourished.
