Where Do You Find Your Drive?
We all have those days. The paperwork piles up, the schedule is full, and the routine begins to feel just that... a routine. On those days, I encourage you to ask yourself one simple question: Where do you find your drive?
For each of us, the answer may be different. Perhaps it's helping a child hear their parents' voices more clearly, watching a patient reconnect with family after years of withdrawing from conversations, mentoring the next generation of audiologists, solving a challenging clinical case, or contributing to research that advances our profession. Whatever it is, identify it. Hold onto it. Return to it whenever you need a reminder of why you chose this profession.
As audiologists, we have the privilege of making a meaningful difference in people's lives, regardless of our area of practice. We may see hundreds, or even thousands, of patients throughout our careers, but to each person sitting in front of us, we are their audiologist. We have the opportunity to reduce isolation, strengthen relationships, restore confidence, and help people fully engage in the moments that matter most. What an incredible privilege it is to have that kind of impact!
As members of the Canadian Academy of Audiology, we are part of a community committed to supporting one another, advancing our profession, and improving the lives of Canadians. On the days that feel difficult, remember what drives you, and lean on this community to help carry you forward.
Our profession will continue to evolve, but one thing will never change: the extraordinary difference one passionate audiologist can make in someone's life. Never lose sight of that.
